About us

The ETH tandem accelerator facilities serve as a national and international center for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and for the materials sciences. We devote about 80% of our efforts to AMS; about 20% go to materials analysis and modification. The focus of our research program is threefold:

• Principle investigations of fundamental physical phenomena on which the methods and techniques of AMS and materials research are based.
• Technical and instrumental developments to provide high performance instruments for applications of ion beam techniques.
• To play a key role in application programs where our methods and techniques are essential research tools.

Beside these core research activities, we are able to operate our laboratory as a true user facility for external collaborators. We are engaged in a wide variety of projects in various fields of prime research to contribute our expertise and experience in a modern multi-disciplinary research environment.

The scientific staff of the laboratory takes part in the teaching program of the physics department (lectures, lab-courses, exercises, undergraduate projects, diploma and Ph.D. programs).
