Ionplus AG

In 2013, Ionplus was incorporated as a spin-off company by the Laboratory of Ion Beam Physics at ETH Zurich. Based on the research conducted for many years at the laboratory, Ionplus develops, builds, and distributes innovative instruments for AMS measurements and sample preparation. Since 2016, Ionplus has moved to an ETHZ external production site, and is operating independently from ETHZ.

Ionplus offers complete laboratory infrastructure required for state-of-the-art AMS analyses. This includes the flagship product Micadas, a 200 kV dedicate AMS system for radiocarbon dating developed at LIP, fully automated graphitization systems, gas interface systems, automated carbonate handling systems, pneumatic sample presses and vacuum lines for sealing tubes and a range of accessories for all products.

There is a close connection between LIP and Ionplus and several common research projects are ongoing to further advance AMS technology. Major projects are the development of a universal, multi-isotope AMS system MILEA, which is capable to analyze all routine AMS nuclides (except 36Cl) throughout the complete periodic table, and the development of the next generation low energy radiocarbon AMS system LEA which makes radiocarbon detection possible at ion energies well below 100 keV.
